My Carnivore Skull Misconception

Ok so flashback to February, 2021. I did a post in my old blog titled "The Red Fox Carcass". For almost a year, I had thought it was a Red Fox Skull (Vulpes Vulpes). It had been sitting on my desk for almost a year, and I didnt know what animal it belonged to. In the post, I go on to talk about the foxes in our area and how it's canine teeth meant it's obviously a canine. I was wrong.

I was identifying bones in owl pellets from the pine grove, when I saw in a skull ID website the image for "Common Raccoon" it looked like an exact replica of my fox skull. After I compared images on google, I had my doubts. INaturalist.com recently confirmed that it was a Raccoon Skull, After I posted these two images:

I felt disappointed but also glad to know I knew the real animal this skull belongs to. Procyon Lotor.

I found this skull in an oak grove off of Simpson St. I recently saw a Nextdoor.com post which contained a video from less than two weeks ago of a MINK rolling around and running on a frozen area of the Sudbury River. In the background of the video, I could see the same little forest that I walk at on Simpson St. Today, I placed my camera there, facing a prime rib, in hopes of getting video of it. I hope the new Wickford Raccoon dosent snatch it.
